"Philotimo" is a pen name chosen by the author because it reflects perfectly his philosophy in life. He is a rare juxtaposition of a man who works in the oil business, an industry that has more than its fair share of critics, and a man who writes poetry: two things that do not normally go together.

Philotimo: is a Greek noun that is very difficult to translate either exactly or fully. In its simplest form it means a "friend of honour" or "living for the benefit of others".

The collections in the "Philotimo Trilogy" contain poems written during the nomadic life of an oilman. They are not poems about life on an oil rig, in fact they have nothing to do with oil rigs at all. They are poems that anyone might have written.

"Philotimo" has written poetry since his early teens and continued to do so throughout a sometimes harsh life spent working in burning deserts, steamy jungles and frozen hills or on remote rigs far away out on the ocean.
