After fighting in several battles and an emotional furlough spent with the girl he loves, he is sent to Atlanta with Sherman and is captured and sent to Andersonville prison. As the war is ending he is finally going home aboard the Mississippi riverboat Sultana. An explosion and an encounter with a rich widow leads to unexpected bounty in the new and rich farmlands of Iowa.

Mike Flinn is a local amateur historian with deep family roots in Adel and Dallas County Iowa. He researched and wrote "Most Exciting Day" a story about the 1895 robbery of the Adel State Bank. He has also written "To Talk of Many Things" a collection of family history and stories of the local area. His latest book, "A Soldier's Bounty" is a story of the Civil War. It is historical fiction, based on actual battles and events. He is retired and lives with his wife Dana in the old family farmhouse in rural Adel. He can be contacted at adelhistory@gmail.com
