À propos du livre
Holgaville
Holgaville is a series of photographs named for the simple, plastic toy camera that I made them with – a Holga.
The camera has almost no user controls. Because the camera cannot be controlled by the user, the user is controlled by the camera. Thus, this series is an extended exercise in learning how to
think like a Holga.
My intent when taking these pictures was to make beautiful and poignant images. The continual
challenge was collecting and reformatting perception into photographs using this simple tool. One could say that this series is about perception or that this is about the act of photography. I say that
these photographs are not what my world looks like but what my world looks like photographed with a Holga.
Shot in locales from Paris to California, many of these images were made in Nova Scotia. The Public Gardens was especially fertile.
