'When we design, it’s as if we are at the convergence of two oceans: we make pieces for the way people desire to live, and how they truly do.’ zelouf+bell and their team of master craftsmen have been making hand-built furniture in their workshop in Ireland since 1992 and marked two decades making useful, beautiful, museum-quality pieces with provenance with a retrospective exhibition in Farmleigh, the Irish State Guesthouse, which traveled to Le Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris to represent Ireland during its EU Presidency in 2013. The alchemy born of the alliance of Belfast-born Bell and New Yorker Zelouf engenders extraordinary pieces grounded in practicality. Eclectic and approachable, strict and playful, selected works from their evocative collections suggest a dialogue between art, design and history. zelouf+bell’s award-winning work is in private collections, public offices, churches and museums, at home and abroad. Recently completed projects include conference furniture for the Dublin headquarters of a multinational company in a listed building in Number 8 St. Stephens’s Green, the Market Room in the Irish Stock Exchange, the Cabinet Room in Dublin’s Government Buildings, a private fishing lodge in Galway, a luxury home in Kinsale, a penthouse in the Four Seasons, a Manhattan penthouse overlooking Central Park, and Irish Embassy Residences in Tokyo, Berlin, Brussels, Beijing, Canberra, Ottawa, Lisbon, The Hague and the Residence of the Joint Secretary, Belfast. The National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks has acquired their third zelouf+bell piece.
