Since 2006, Karen and Robert Duncan, and Kathryn and Marc LeBaron have offered an artist-in-residence program for artists in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. More than 50 artists have been invited to work, relax and recharge at Aguacate. This exhibition offers a sampling of works by most of them.

As project architect, Jun Kaneko’s design is both beautiful and functional . . . the kind of space that inspires creativity. His renovation includes the artistry of a floating staircase cantilevered from a shocking pink wall, the excitement of a transparent floor with incised letters that seem to have fallen from a miscellany of books.

Virtually all of the works in this exhibition are from the Duncan or LeBaron Collection and many were created while the artists were in residence at Aguacate. While some artists continued with existing series, others seized the opportunity to venture creatively into unchartered territory. To evoke the flavor of their experiences, we have tried to include photographs of the artists while in Puerto Vallarta.
