Documentation of performative actions that manifest pure expression of the body is a theme that remains consistent in my work. The vigorous and absurd postures I hold throughout spotlight the animalistic nature of the body outside of my identity as a person. These gestures ultimately challenge the bias of idealistic beauty in the female form, and impose elements of destruction to the space around me.
More specifically in this series, sweep the porch, I capture interactions between the eccentric shapes of my body and the pedestrian facets of life, approaching them from a place of curiosity that transforms the moment into an odd event. Whether it be at home, in classrooms, or outside in public spaces, I am impulsively posing in environments that show the remnants of unorganized human activity with items of little significance. These images are not self-portraits, as there is more of a focus on the movement of the body than on the evaluation of the individual. Instead, I am practicing behavior of detachment from my mind.
