À propos du livre
Behind closed doors in suburbia children laugh and scream, messes are made and cleaned up, and arguments are won and lost. Two young families opened the door to a realm of love and struggle, as these families confront the challenges of young parenthood in the suburbs of the Gold Coast, Queensland.
Jing quickly makes a cup of green tea with a handsome dollop of honey, as 15 month old, Rudra, fills the sparse living room with the sounds and antics of a toddler. Jing sips her tea, placing a hand on her belly wondering how she is going to manage come May, without the support of friends and family tucked away in Southern China.
Not far away, Dee Dee sits down on her nest, a worn blue couch, trying to comfort an aching pregnant body. Despite her husband Michael quietly feeding Chi; the room is filled with a sense of impatience and impending chaos. Accepting their history of mental illness, they prepare for a second child.
Both families attend a young parents group for parents between the ages of 12 and 25 at YHES house in Southport, expanding their social networks and gaining critical support.
