When I moved to Vernon, BC in 2004 I was soon struck by the ubiquitous presence of the name “Kalamalka” or simply “Kal”. It was, of course, the name of one of the most beautiful lakes I had ever seen. In this booklet I hope you will find some beautiful photos and interesting historical facts about Kalamalka but even more so I hope you will find the story of Kalamalka. A story that has been evolving since the first inhabitants, the Okanagan First Nations, through to the early European settlers and on to today. This is a story of generations of people falling in love with a very special lake with a very rich history.
