In September 2017 I am travelling through this wonderful country, one of the poorest countries of the world, where one third are living in poverty.
There aren’t many tourists. I am ashamed to walk around in the villages because I am a rich Westener, but I feel welcome. Through tourism, jobs are created and they improve the well-being of the locals. Our eyes meet, and I imagine what kind of future they have. I realise it is a matter of survival for them.
I am blessed that I was born in The Netherlands.
