What do you get from hiking 100 km in Iceland?

You get to realize that Iceland is a country of sharp contrasts. It has dramatic landscapes, volcanoes, geysers, hot springs, lava fields, magnificent waterfalls, massive glaciers, and a place where fire and ice co-exist. It is a place where dark winters are offset by the summer's midnight sun. I have been to Iceland 8 times now and I covered lot of ground and this in the fall, winter and summer.

Iceland is a special place to me, a place where my desire to push myself seems effortless. Well, maybe not so effortless considering my fear of heights. I push myself to the limit when I go down the steep cliffs to get a better vantage point, walking, hiking on narrow edges, dealing with a wide range of weather elements such as rain, sleet, 60 mph winds, and cold.

There are also days I don’t feel like getting up at 2-3 am and I just want to sleep in. The idea of just getting up with my body overwhelmed with pain seems like such a roadblock. So, why do it?

When I get up and I get moving, I forget all about the pain through the adventures, looking forward to this renewed connection with nature and when I finally make it there, I get this positive rush and I find inner peace. I get a sense of accomplishment and to photograph nature in its best light is making me happy.

My images are a reminder of not only of what I saw, but what I felt and what I lived.
