A house door is the entrance to man’s inner reality. Doesn’t matter how simple or complex the latter might be, there is always a door that separates and protects it from the external. A house door is always kept in place, despite the fact that its fragility or wear could make it look like only a narrow line between the inside and the outside.
Cities and towns in Cuba show us in their doors a sea of textures and combinations of materials and colors; the tones created by the effects of time and climate, and social neglect constitute, almost inexplicably, a fatal attraction for the trained eye and sensitivity of the photographer.
This is my second Blurb book on the subject, the first being “Doors of Havana and Matanzas”, published in 2014 and devoted mainly to these two cities. The present book continues exploring Havana, but also adds doors from Santa Clara, Remedios, Trinidad, Cienfuegos, Camaguey, Holguín, Manzanillo, Santiago de Cuba and Baracoa.
