Right smack, dab in the armpit of America, otherwise known as Appalachia, Charles Wayne Shelton II has raged against a lack of understanding, acceptance and resources to bring his visions and observations into this world in the form of nude art, which he refers to as "Hillbilly Chic". Shelton began shooting nude models in 1996 and has done so in the most unusual of ways, without the use of talent agencies or fancy equipment, embracing a DIY attitude and his own resourcefulness to cultivate models, wardrobe, props, settings and anything else necessary to create images that are unique, provocative and entertaining. In 2010 his image “Knothole“ was selected by Erotic Signature to represent him as one of the top 200 erotic photographers in the world in it‘s fourth annual collection. His first solo exhibit titled “Hillbilly Chic …. The Art of Charles Wayne Shelton II” was shown at the KAS Gallery in Louisville from October 2011 until April of 2012.
