Author/musician Doug Meyer was born in Los Angeles in 1949, predating even the freeways! However, he was raised in the Midwest & now finds himself living in Hamel, IL (aka the Paris of the Prairie), a convivial community of about 597 good folks located on Old Route 66 just a tad north of St. Louis. For over 40 years, he performed as an acoustic and electric bassist from the saloons of Fairbanks, Alaska, to Carnegie Hall in NY, as well as in Europe. Along the way, he earned Bachelor & Master of Music degrees & taught string bass & music history as an adjunct professor before accepting his current position at a university library. These days, reticent if not yet retired & while still mourning the recent loss of Spencer to renal cancer, he enjoys hangin’ out at home with a beloved, but remarkably ungrateful rescue kitty named Maddie, bicycling the countryside, feasting with friends at Indian restaurants, & creating music & prose.
