À propos du livre
For our summer issue we focus on design + food. First, we explore the art of food consumption. Emilie Baltz describes her performative food experiences. Artist and designer Jake Tilson, inspired by an unlikely gastronomic mainstay shared by Japan and his native UK, conceives of fantastical architecture and typefaces. And Erik Benjamin, moved by the riches of Florence's museums, collaborates on a sweet celebration of the museum café. We don’t entirely ignore the serious stuff: Robert Kett and Anna Kryczka delved into the archives of the University of California Irvine to bring us the history of a campus-based experimental “farm” that became a controversial intellectual incubator. Design Observer contributor Justin Zhuang and collaborator Sheere Ng talk about the cultural changes in shared eating experiences. If we discovered anything in pulling together this issue it’s that there is no fixed application of design when it comes to our intimate cultural, political, and physical relationships to food, consumption, and waste. Our personal taste, so to say, when it comes to food, is just as limitless as what design can do for our food future.
