If such a thing as the FIGMENT book existed (but there is no such thing) this might be it (but it isn’t). This is not the FIGMENT book; it is a FIGMENT book. This is a case for creativity, for sharing, for collaboration, for learning, for joy, for gratitude, and for love. It is a case against metrics and measurability. This is not a history of FIGMENT (although FIGMENT is celebrating 10 years of history in 2016). This is an invitation to imagine a place where everyone is invited to create and share and contribute and grow and build community—and then to create the world we imagine, and to live in it. This is a FIGMENT book.

David is the Founder, Executive Producer, and Executive Director of FIGMENT, a participatory arts event that now takes place in 12 cities in 4 countries annually. FIGMENT was founded on Governors Island in New York Harbor in 2007, on the premise that everyone is an artist, and that art is something that everyone can create and interact with. The NYC festival has grown dramatically, and now welcomes 25,000 participants each year who engage with over 250 arts projects. The Village Voice has named FIGMENT NYC the Best Art Festival in New York City. FIGMENT’s brand was recognized by a “Making the Case” award from AIGA. BBC Travel has written, “If Figment were a country, it would be the happiest in the world – and I would apply for citizenship immediately.”
