À propos du livre
Derelict Memories is the product of a collaboration between spoken word artist and poet Richard Grant, a.k.a. Dreadlock-Alien, and photographer Kipp Jones. The story depicts an old lady who returns to her roots for the last time, only to find it in a state of dereliction. Along the way the work comments on the dissatisfied social and economic situation many people are forced to live in regarding community issues such as vandalism, drug abuse and poverty, to global problems relating to the environment. These topics, intertwined with those concerning economic displacement and the consequences of modernisation and globalisation make for an interesting read in which more comes to light each time you do so. The photographs are all shot in Birmingham and work together with the text to create a fictional location in which the story is set. They often use surfaces to reference age and the idea of abandonment and dereliction in a location.
