Long ago I read Pablo Neruda's book of poetry entitled The Book of Questions;
I found it to be deeply interesting, deeply inventive, and deeply pleasing. There is
a sense of playfulness mixed with a sense of seriousness—which after years of
watching life—often translates to a sense of wisdom, without attachment to things.

In reading Pablo's poems of questions they always begin to instill for me a
mindset, even if only fleeting, of play, of creativity, of joy, of expansion of worlds,
of possibilities . . . .

Many of Pablo's poems in The Book of Questions cannot be approached with logic.
If they are, then the spell is missed, the enchantment is missed, the Mystery is missed.
What I have always liked most about The Book of Questions is its spell, its enchantment,
and its Mystery.

It seems that there are many more things in this world to be approached, not with
logic, but with just a simple appreciation for their Mystery. Attempts at approaching
them from logic, always fail. The Mystery just is, and sooner or later, I realize that all
you can do is accept the Mystery, be with the Mystery, love the Mystery.

It is something which children intuitively know, and yet quickly lose, as they
become adults.

But that is part of the Mystery. For some of the questions cannot even be
partially approached until the child has some of the experience and wisdom of
an adult. And then the Mystery pops up again as the adult tries to approach the
questions from logic—rather than the mind of a child.

If the reader can go full circle—child—adult—adult-child, then the questions
seem to have their most vivid impact.

I was so impressed with Pablo's book of poetry that I very slowly started to
attempt to write my own poetry questions. It took a very long time; in fact, it has
taken over thirteen years to reach this point. Preguntas: A Book of Questions is
that fulfillment, that nod to Pablo, that gracias to Pablo, for his gift to me.
