The Carter Burden Gallery is committed to empowering re-emerging older professional artists through the exhibition and cultivation of their work, based solely on quality and impact. These artists have faced increasingly limited opportunities to show their work as they age, despite any past renown. In focusing on under-represented artists, the gallery has developed a roster that equally includes female and male artists, knowing that the gallery world in general does not equally represent women. Our interest is in reversing these patterns.

The legacy attached to over 50 years of career art making is significant not only to the art community, but the city as a whole. Since its inception in 2009, the Carter Burden Gallery has exhibited artists that are part of permanent, private, and museum collections and recipients of prestigious arts awards, including grants from The Pollock-Krasner Foundation and The Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation. Over 600 artists have submitted work for consideration and the gallery has had over 70 solo and group shows.

The Carter Burden Gallery provides a community and professional network to its artists. This network addresses issues of isolation common to some older artists through professional and social engagement.
