À propos du livre
I wasn’t an army brat and I didn’t change locations because my parents were in the military; we just weren’t financial stable. Although we moved around a lot, our family dynamic never changed. My schoolwork and friendships never suffered and we stayed together as a family.
This project is a series of images that shows the ever-changing living situations I have endured throughout my life. Upon re-visiting each place, several memories surfaced. I knew that going back to certain houses would remind me of the harsh moments our family endured to stay together, especially at 2135 Orchard Drive. I lived there with my grandmother, who isn’t the most hospitable, and the upper-class neighborhood was also strenuous. Returning to this place, specifically, made me realize how much of an impact it has had on my life. Other places I have lived were not in the most stable houses, but it was better than living under someone else. The image without a house is a vacant lot where a trailer used to be. When I visited this place, I wasn’t expecting it to be completely gone. The only thing left to look back on was the street sign lying next to it.
Every time we would pack up and move, my mother would say, “it was just another adventure”.
I believed her.
