À propos du livre
Early Years is a curatorial project produced by Nasui collection & gallery presenting the beginnings of some creative journeys of seven contemporary artists: Daniel Brici, Cristian Todie, Anca Danila, Radu Belcin, Francisc Chiuariu, Flavia Pitis. Early Years can emphase the chronology of life, of a particular creation period, of subjects or of ideas.
Considering early years in art can be very specific.
It takes both courage and vision to join and follow the initial stages of an artistic path or another. You can have as many early years as your creativity and ingeniousity can deliver. That is why this syntagma is usually assumed by the few, who like the challenge of new and fresh and enjoy the beginnings, before the rough things and ideas become well crafted and shaped by style and technique. For others, less adventurous, the early years would require too much (time, resources) and involve too big a risk: cannot be easily understood, as they lack establishment.
Another challenge for the artists in their early years is that they use a mix that cannot be predicted by any oracle: they struggle around passion, idea, technique, celebrity and market value. The context and approach of each artistic path can be even more important than the art itself. We can truly say that early years can be determinant for each creative trail.
What is also linking the approaches of these six artists presented hereby is their care for a specific subject: habits in particular contexts. Habits are states of mind, of things, of environments, that take different shapes and eventually get fixed during a person’s existence, influencing behaviour and decision.
The early years will be followed by other kinds of stages, more specific or perhaps more established. But the joy of research, discovery, playfulness, uncertainty of this phase cannot be forgotten and it will surely count more and more after years.
