There were all sorts of brigadistas in Nicaragua, groups of supporters from around the world who wanted to use their special skills to aid the Sandinistas in briging Nicaragua out of the fuedal state the Somozas and the US had imposed since before the first uprising of Sandino in 1927. Ben Lindner, the water specialist and clown, who was assassinated by the Contra was one of these brigidistas. In July 1979 the Sandinistas took control of Nicaragua and ended the decades long dictatorship and dynasty of the Somozas. Ten years later in '88 Sam Kerson joined the Boston based Arts for a New Nicaragua and went on a number of trips as a theatre artist and as a muralist, working especially in region four between Managua and San Juan del Sur.
