In any city, we are surrounded by typography, thousands of voices calling out trying to get our attention telling us where to go, how to get around, where to eat and where to shop. We see these messages and forms of communication every day and with a busy, urban lifestyle it is easy to ignore and take it all for granted.

The one thing that has always inspired me about London is its diversity. Diversity in food, culture, people and business. You only have to walk a few miles in either direction to suddenly feel a different vibe and witness a different social base. You don’t need to travel the world when living in London as the world travels to you.

London’s rich diversity stimulates diversity in its urban typography. This has inspired me to create London Urban Types. From store signs to street and neon signs, public transport, gutters, bins, drains, urban decay, typography cut in stone and hidden relics of the past, this book showcases a collection of urban typography captured across London. From North to South and East to West.

This photographic documentary contains 1289 images, with each individually handpicked and carefully edited to present a single character. The book showcases these letters spanning the entire alphabet. This book aims to celebrate London's rich diversity in urban communication and the many styles that call out at us everyday.
