À propos du livre
Descr.
This 56-page monograph chronicles a spring, 2013 Graduate Architecture Design studio at the University of Southern California. The studio problem was theoretical in nature and involved the combining 60 units of "apartment for life" housing (an emerging Dutch housing type for older people) with the USC emeriti center and a comprehensive lifelong learning program (13,500 SF). Classroom and office space was also provided for USC's Civic Engagement (community outreach) program, as well as 4500 SF of restaurant/coffee shop/retail mixed-use retail space. The book features four noteworthy solutions, 10 project considerations (topics such as walking/exercise, social exchange, unit adaptability, landscape treatments, etc.) and a description of the process used to arrive at various solutions. The big idea was to create a special residential/educational/service setting on a 2.33-acre site that was adjacent to the surrounding USC neighborhood. The work explores in detail ideas about caring for frail older people in a residential context and the creation on campus of a social nexus for students, faculty, staff, community residents and retired faculty/staff.
