This thesis sought to exploit the potentials of soft membranes as formwork for fluid materials in order to produce complex spatial organizations. A fluid material's ability to flow, adapt and create complex forms at a high resolution is ignored within the constraints of current standardized fabrication processes. Therefore, the objective of this thesis was to create highly adaptive surfaces via a soft-body fabrication system that discards inefficient, wasteful formwork such as wood, steel, and foam, and instead proposes flexible formwork consistent with those abilities. The thesis addressed directly the idea of mass customization at a low cost and with zero to minimal material waste.
