From Turbulence to Tranquility: The Portland Japanese Garden takes you on a photographic journey through the Japanese Garden of Portland, Oregon. The garden features five distinct styles, full of lush foliage and beautifully placed ponds, streams, and waterfalls. Designed by Professor Takuma Tono, the Portland Japanese Garden serves as a living, breathing reflection of the history and culture of traditional Japan.



The Portland Japanese Garden makes use of stone, the “bones” of the landscape; water, the life-giving force; and plants, the tapestry of the four seasons. With these three essential elements, and others including pagodas, lanterns, arbors, and bridges, the gardens aim to reflect nature in idealized form.
