When we dream, our minds are free to do all the things we would never

do in real life. The human brain creates a state of being in which our

hidden fears and desires come to the surface.



When we dream we can explore those feelings and act them out without

fear of shame or punishment. It is this subconscious activity that

I want represented in this body of work,

to explore the mystery of this dream state.



I photograph strangers from many different cultures and ages. Before

shouting, I ask my models about their fears and desires. I explain to

them that the image I want to create will contain two versions of them,

one showing the exterior they present to the world and the other an

interior, more secret self. I give the models a lot of freedom with

poses and expressions, but I also need to direct them in order to

achieve a perfect fit between the two "selves".



I want my models to know that the images I create are about their

feelings and that I want to be inspired by them as much as they are

inspired by my concepts.



In this body of work, my hope is that the surreal becomes real and the

personal becomes general as happen in our dreams.
