Tattoo artists customize their machines with coins, keys, and other found items. Over time artists fine-tune their tools to fit their personality and tattooing style.



This book is a collection of photographs of every tattoo artist practicing in Athens, Ohio, at the time of the project and a selection of the tools they use to produce their art. I've also included transcripts of my interviews with the artists.
