”Pripyat – population zero” is telling a story about a young man’s journey.
”In January 2006 I set out to seek the true loneliness. It’s often said that you have to go far to see close. So, I headed for Ukraine to the town of Pripyat. Although there is everything you’d expect to find in a city: hospital, kindergarten, schools, theatre, swimming hall...you don’t find a single person living there.
The town was evacuated on 26 April 1986 in the aftermath of the Chernobyl nuclear accident- the worst of its kind in the world. Since then that former town of 47 000 people has been uninhabited. Estimates of re-population vary between 300 to 900 years.
In Pripyat I could face the true loneliness, I thought.”
Photographs in the book were taken in Pripyat, nearly twenty years after the nuclear disaster.
