Hermine Oberück is a German photo journalist, photographer and political activist. Since the Chernobyl reactor accident she has been critically documenting and commenting on the consequences and side effects of nuclear energy production. In the last 25 years she has travelled frequently to the radioactively contaminated regions of Belarus. The selection of photos in this volume demonstrates in a nightmarish way, what is usually not seen und kept secret: the disastrous long-term consequences of the contamination for living being.



Hermine Oberück invites us with her photos in spookily-beautiful landscapes with small defects, takes us to the genetic consultation agencies, the abortion and maternity clinics, presents multiply handicapped children, young people with thyroid cancer, and homeless seniors that illegally return to their uninhabitable hometowns.

With great respect and upsetting accuracy Hermine Oberück portraits people that have lost forever what counts most for all of us: Security, homeland and trust.
