The idea of traveling on the Trans-Siberian Railway fired my imagination as soon as I became aware of its existence; but like so many other dreams, I couldn’t imagine it ever being realized. Then, in 1975, I was planning to return from Australia to Paris, France when some friends invited me to visit them in Japan; and thus the first seeds of fulfilling my dream were sown. Why not travel to Paris by ship and train?

Keith Munro was born in Banff, Scotland, in 1948. At the age of 16, he migrated to Australia where he has lived ever since. At various times, he played guitar in a band, worked in a commercial photography studio and travelled widely in North America, Europe and Asia. He is married and has one son.
