Ryan Locke lived in Matamoros, Mexico from 2009 to 2011 with his diplomat spouse. He took these photographs--most in Mexico, some in Texas--while learning Spanish, dodging bullets (sometimes literally), and acclimating to Mexico and Texas. These photographs span the region and nation, from Austin and the Valley in Texas to Monterrey, Puebla, Oaxaca, and more in Mexico.

Ryan Locke
Matamoros, Mexico

Ryan began taking photographs in high school with his Dad's old Nikon, working for the school newspaper. At college, his photographs were published in his school's literary magazine. His first book of photography is YOU ARE HERE: Two years between Mexico and America. Ryan earned a B.A. in Rhetoric & Communication Studies and Psychology from the University of Richmond and a J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law. He works as an attorney.
