À propos du livre
This book contains 60 fine art photographs that have been taken by 6 members of a photographic group known as the BITE (Beauty In The Eye) Photographers Group.
There are 10 images by each photographer. Each of the 10 photographs were submitted for the Royal Photographic Society 'Licentiate' distinction. All 6 panels succeeded in achieving the distinction.
Rather than put the photographs away and let them gather dust we decided to group together and share them with the world in a series of exhibitions, and of course, this book. All of the photographers in the group are based in Dorset, UK, so the first venue for the exhibition was a gallery in Bournemouth known as “Gallery at Simple”
The photographers shoot a range of styles and genres...
The photographs in this book (in the order they appear) were taken by:
Mark Freeman LRPS Pages 6 - 15
Vasek Gryga LRPS Pages 16 - 25
Gary Heald LRPS Pages 26 - 35
Fiona Moorey LRPS Pages 36 - 45
Paul Plumb LRPS Pages 46 - 55
Hazel Taylor LRPS Pages 56 - 65
At this point it is perhaps worth stressing that we are a group of photographers and not a photography club. We first met at Poole and Bournemouth College where we were all working towards the LRPS distinction.
It isn't unusual to find one of our group members supporting another at a Wedding, or standing in a field taking photos at an Equestrian event. Whilst there may, on occasions, be a little bit of friendly competition the normal modus operandi is helping each other wherever possible. On a cold and frosty winter morning you will find at least two of the group out capturing the sunrise in the Dorset hills and then later in a local cafe where they will be comparing their morning “captures”.
Details of each of the photographers is given in a short biography at the back of this book (pages 66 - 71).
If possible try to attend one of our exhibitions where you will see the images mounted and framed. If you are unable, you will still be able to enjoy the beauty of the photographs in this book. You will find images of food, landscapes, wildlife, still-life, portraits, flowers, weddings , travel and aviation photography.
In order to achieve the distinction all images have to be produced to the same high exacting standards; demonstrating good technical control of the camera, subject, lighting, and print reproduction.
Whilst this book and the associated exhibitions contain photographs from 6 of the group it is worth mentioning that there are other members who were unable to be involved on this occasion. Two of the members are absent from this exhibition due to very recent additions to their family! Warm congratulations are sent to Dominic and Patrick, and their families, on the safe arrival of Zoe and Amber.
We would also like to thank our dedicated tutors at Bournemouth and Poole College, Patrick Denis, John Ralph and Dennis Roberts who have helped us develop and improve our technical skills, explore the history and styles of photography and learn how to give and take constructive criticism.
