The ocean is vast, and I grew up in the middle of it, in Hawaii. I was in the ocean at an early age, drawn by the warm play of water on skin, chasing fish and shadows. I surfed the big waves as a teenager and remember the thrill of the ride, the salt spray in my eyes, the uncertainty of what lurked below.
