Jim McMahen was born and raised in Chico, California. After graduating from high school he attended Yuba Community College and Butte Community College where he received an AA degree. He then transferred to Chico State College where he completed his undergraduate and graduate work. After earning his teaching credential, Jim moved to Sacramento and began his 34-year career as a high school teacher before retiring in 2008. Jim’s interest in photography began while attending Chico State and for over thirty years he has been involved in various aspects of the medium. He enjoys the ability to look at an image and make it his own, through his eyes. His goal is to have his photographs evoke the strong images that he sees.
