Dear friends,

For those of you who know me personally, you know also the deep love I feel for Africa, the desert and its people. In all these years of photo journalism and traveling to this magical places, I have so many memories, images, lots of moments that have a special meaning to me, and I think I can describe it and present a “piece” of Africa to those who hasn´t been there yet.

I wanted to synthesize the most significant images in a book: “Africa, People & Landscapes”. This is born as a personal job, but then, talking to friends, I think that I should do something real to help these wonderful people that live in these hostile landscapes with survival as their main goal.

“Africa, People & Landscapes” is not a common book that you can find in a store, but a “Print on Demand” book, printed by request through an American service.

The idea is simple: the proceeds from the book´s sale will be designated to a project of a well construction in Mali, one of the poorest regions in the world. The association “I ragazzi del pozzo” (The children of the well), friends, people that I know personally, work in the Kanaga 2008 Association, and last year they started a well construction in Mali, in the community of Kani-Bonzon, in the village of Gama.

This year, they intended to finish what they started last year. They were 12 deep, and they found a rock. To finish it, it is necessary to continue for 6 more meters deep and then, horizontally to get the source. This well is located at Inguele, next to Sanghà, and its means is to provide with water not only he village, but also a school of 543 students.

Chi mi conosce personalmente, conosce anche il profondo amore che nutro per l’Africa, il deserto, le sue genti. In tanti anni di lavoro fotogiornalistico e di viaggi in quei luoghi magici ho raccolto molte immagini, molti momenti che per me hanno un significato particolare, ma che credo possano descrivere e rappresentare un piccolo “spaccato” dell’Africa anche a chi non ci è mai stato. Le immagini più significative le ho volute sintetizzare in un libro: “Africa, People & Landscapes” nasce prima di tutto come lavoro personale, ma poi, parlando con alcuni amici, ho pensato che possa diventare uno strumento per fare qualcosa di concreto per aiutare quelle popolazioni che giornalmente lottano in un ambiente ostile con un solo obiettivo primario, quello di sopravvivere.

“Africa, People & Landscapes” non è un libro comune che si trova in libreria, ma è un libro “Print on Demand”, che viene stampato su ordinazione attraverso un service americano.

L’idea è semplice: i proventi ricavati dalla vendita del libro saranno destinati ad un progetto per la costruzione di un pozzo nel Mali, una delle regioni più povere al Mondo. L'associazione "I ragazzi del pozzo",amici, gente che conosco personalmente, tramite l'asociazione Kanaga 2008, l’anno scorso hanno iniziato la costruzione di un pozzo in Mali, nel Comune di Kani-Bonzon, nel villaggio di Gama.

Quest’anno intendono terminare un pozzo già iniziato in precedenza da altri. Il pozzo era stato iniziato scavando per dodici metri circa, nella roccia. Per terminarlo è necessario procedere per ulteriori 6 metri in profondità e poi in orizzontale sino alla falda. Questo pozzo è situato a Inguele, vicino a Sanghà, e consentirà di fornire acqua, oltre che agli abitanti del villaggio, anche alla vicina scuola media frequentata da 543 alunni.
