It was the fall of 2022, and I was ready to begin travelling again. Many people were already on the move, and the airports were a mess. What could I do?

I did a tour by train. I went coast to coast in the US and Canada. I marveled at the vast prairies and the majestic mountains. I slept on board and shared my meals in the dining cars. In between I toured my favorite cities.

I began my train odyssey on the overnight Halifax to Montreal train, “The Ocean”. A five-hour train ride to Toronto and a short flight took me to Chicago where I boarded the historic California Zephyr. The 53-hour ride took me through the Rocky Mountains and over the Sierra Nevada to San Francisco Bay. I was a busy tourist in San Francisco before boarding the overnight Coast Starlight to Seattle. Two days later the Cascades took me to Vancouver for my final train, Via Rail’s Canadian. This four-night trip took me through the Canadian Rockies and across the Canadian prairies to Toronto.

I took many photographs along the way.
