The Akrotiri Project is concerned with the history of the landscape. Akrotiri is an ancient Minoan site located on the Island of Santorini or Ancient Thera. This series deals with the idea of Akrotiri and the history of Ancient Thera as well as other adjacent Cycladic islands rather than the specific site of Akrotiri itself, and explores the contemporary landscape while evoking its historical past. Nature and the landscape have always been central to my work. I am interested in what can be sensed and felt in addition to what is seen. In my artistic practice I now work with contemporary tools to capture and create the images, but my work also refers to traditional ways of making and interpreting images. I wish to produce images that will require viewers to confront the artistic and theoretical consequences of the digital “revolution.”
