All around the world, we essentially all want the same thing: happy and healthy children. Playgrounds serve exactly this purpose: they are meant to "enhance" an otherwise child-unfriendly environment.

In a natural habitat, there would be no need for a playground; children would essentially live in a large play space where everything would be available and could be utilized. In our modern urban environments, however, children are restricted in many ways—things are too dangerous or too dirty; their play needs to be channeled into orderly paths.

Interestingly, the approach to this looks almost the same on all continents. Even though playgrounds may not always appeal to us adults, there is a beautiful idea behind each one: we want to bring joy to children, allowing them to play and laugh. This fundamental idea is a connecting element, present behind every playground, no matter where it is or what it looks like.
