We are the descendants of six courageous people who took the long and dangerous voyage from Britain to New Zealand in the 19th century. Jabez and Mary Milner were the first to arrive, with their infant daughter Agnes, at Lyttelton, in July 1861. Samuel Wood Sr. came ashore in Wellington in July 1873. Thomas and Ann Hurley sailed into Lyttelton Harbour, and into quarantine, a family of 10, in February 1875. The last to arrive was Lyttleton Packer, a crew member of the barque Sarco, in 1878.
None of these Canterbury pioneers would return to their homeland.
