LaRive’s work, beginning with large-format scroll drawings of figures toiling in cracked-earth landscapes (Rescue and Recovery series). The following series of  monochromatic drawings captures the expansive and rhythmic landscapes of the Southwest in an intimate format, 5 x 9 inches.  Over the course of 5 years, the work became increasingly abstract, especially generated by cottonwood trees, whose choreographic movement harken back to the figure.  The current work is entirely abstract (though derived from figure studies) and presented as a single installation of unframed drawings.
