À propos du livre
The village of Jambu Pani, an hour in the hot sun from where the jeeps had to stop, invited a number of us city folk for a day of celebration. With the help of molasses and bags of wheat and huge pots of boiling water villagers made a large firepit and cooked a mixture of toasted wheat and brown sugar which boiled down all afternoon while the villagers sang and danced and put on a pantomime show. When the sweet wheat dish was done everyone feasted on plates made from leaves picked from nearby bushes. Then the city folk walked through the hot sun for an hour to their jeeps and went home.

I grew up in India where my parents were Presbyterian agricultural missionaries and have taught at Warren Wilson College most of my life. My photographs are of north India and Sri Lanka where I have traveled many times; of Germany, which is my wife, Kathe's, home; and of the Swannanoa Valley and Asheville, North Carolina and of students and staff at Warren Wilson College, in Swannanoa just outside Asheville. Lately I have also been photographing weddings at Hidden River Events.
