I grew up in the Toronto suburb of Etobicoke. Toronto is essentially my hometown, a place I am familiar with. As a teenager I roamed the downtown, spending time in the local pubs and bars. I also indulged in its music culture, attending many 70’s and 80’s rock concerts. To me Toronto is a familiar place, a place I didn’t begin photographing on the streets until 2015. Late to the street photography game, I found myself on fire making photographs. The streets were filled with life; vibrancy and a huge amount of subject matter. Everywhere I looked were potential images and I felt an excitement, an obsession with capturing unique moments.

This series of candid photographs shows the people of Toronto as I found them between the years 2015 to 2023. It is a document of this time on the streets. There is no effort to be inclusive; rather it is a random chance of engagement. The people photographed simple came into view and were captured by my camera. The project gives an idea of what it was like being on the streets during this time frame. That being said there is a gap in the timeline during the pandemic. From February 2020 to June 2022, there were no photographs made on the streets due to Covid and the huge reduction of people commuting into and out of the city during this time frame. I resumed photographing on the streets in the summer of 2022 into 2023 when the project was deemed completed. Other than this gap of time the series serves as a record of people, styles and Toronto society on the whole during my time.
