The history of the Giles family of Lancashire begins in the late 1700’s with Thomas Giles (b) (1767-1843) a merchant, who was the son of Thomas Giles (a) and Jane Hack. Thomas married Elizabeth Redmayne who was born in 1773 at Ingleton, Yorkshire.

One of Thomas and Elizabeth's sons, Thomas Giles (d), married Sophia Naters Jukes, the daughter of George Morss Jukes of Hampshire, and later of Le Havre, France. In view of the marriage, this family history narrative also follows the family of George Morss Jukes.
