Essaouira is a major fishing port in Morocco. Its 18th century medina is home to thousands of well-fed, happy cats, sunning themselves and befriending tourists. They have an abundance of fresh fish and residents also provide them with other food and water. Volunteer veterinarians sterilise, vaccinate, and do regular health checks. I painted these cats when I was in Essaouira for three months in 2018.
