Wooden railways are much more than a child’s toy – they represent an extraordinary entry point into model railroading coupled with the flexibility of imaginative, collaborative play. A modular wooden railway provides a foundation for a creative world filled with buildings, trees and terrain. Durable trees can be fashioned using upholstery fabric and bolts, buildings made using photographs or prints glued to blocks and landscaping easily achieved using carpet, images or quarried stone. Custom trains can be built on the wheelbase of other trains with bodies made from blocks and dowels with images applied using decoupage or painted and marked using rubber stamps. Model railroading is accessible for any age leveraging traditional crafts, graphical design and industrial arts.

These resources are intended to share ideas that take wooden track to a hobbyist level. Great for kids, this non-scale railway allows limitless creativity in the medium of wood, glue, metal, fabric, textures and paper. I would even dare to suggest it brings with it charm and a bit of whimsy too... I graduated from Texas A&M University and currently design commercial aircraft. Through work, I had the opportunity to live in Bristol, England and Nagoya, Japan. Travel is also an interest - some of my favorite places include Montserrat, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Wales, Hungary, and Estonia.
