John retired in 2004. He and his wife, Wendy, have been married nine years and they have traveled the world.. He created more than 140 paintings of the people, places and animals they met on overseas travels and the beautiful Maine seascapes. This art work was featured in his book. "MY TRAVELS - MY ART, 80TH BIRTHDAY EDITION" published in 2023. His new paintings focus on landscapes in the National Parks. The first edition of the new paintings is now available. Currently they are also working on a granite sculpture garden at their home near Acadia NP.
Previously, during a 30 year academic career, he held faculty positions at seven major research universities, His research and teaching focused on changing large complex organization and improving quality. He is author of more than 80 research articles and books. In recognition of his teaching contributions, NASA, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Penn State Graduate School alumni presented him with Distinguished Service Award
