À propos du livre
Local Savannah artist, Brandon Schaffner, has compiled an intense visual collection that documents 2 and 1/2 years of the music, the beer, the sweat, the tattoos, and the horns that are Savannah's underground music scene. The bands, both local and touring, categorized as "underground", cross genres of rock, punk, hardcore, metal, and honky-tonk. Each intense performance was captured at the Jinx and the former Velvet Elvis.
What started as a student snapping pictures one night while out at a show turned into a mission to document the music scene as it unfolded at the local stomping ground. Inspired by the determination to not be held down or conform to others ideals, the DFL project is proof that anyone can have their day on their own terms. Above all else the photographs paint a picture of unity and family amongst those brought together for each performance.
To seize the energy of the bands as they interact with the patrons Brandon has immortalized this experience from the crowd's perspective, making the viewer take everything in head-on. Brandon's treatment of the images applies a fine art quality to the beer-and-sweat coated energy of each show. Shot with digital and Holga, or toy, cameras the DFL project is a beautiful collection of quintessential drunken mayhem that pays homage to some of Savannah's most amazing bands, an amazing bar and those who support them.

Savannah Ga.
I’ve had two great loves in my life Design of all types and punk rock. This book is a labor of love and created entirely to document the scene I love and will always be a part of. I have been shooting at the "jinx" and Velvet Elvis for almost a decade now and have enjoyed every second of it. I received my B.F.A From the Savannah College of Art and Design in photography in 2004 and have been working in web design and running SFDS for about two years now.
