À propos du livre
Stéphane Ducret, who was a recipient of the Leenaards Foundation Award in 2003, is a Geneva based artist whose interests include works by French neurosurgeon and philosopher Henri Laborit and by American Anthropologist Carlos Castaneda, and who works in a wide variety of media. Indeed, the vast diversity of his output has become one of his signatures. From oil, oilstick and spray paintings, collage paintings and photography, to aerosol and cardboard based installations and sculptures, Ducret's aesthetic is difficult to pin down. It addresses numerous topics, including the Beat Generation, counterculture, psychedelic rock, garage music, the process of achieving eudaimonia (Greek word for “happiness”), masculinity, violence, drugs, existentialism and liberty.
Ducret's approach leans on counterculture, psychedelic rock and the practice of tagging territory. Ducret's “HOWL” series first began in 2014. They explored oil, oilstick and spray paintings and textually captured the eponym poem by poet Allen Ginsberg (1926 - 1997). This text is considered to be one of the greatest works of the Beat Generation. The principal themes of this post World War II movement are : rejection of received standards, innovations in style, use of illegal drugs, alternative sexualities, interest in spirituality, rejection of materialism and explicit portrayals of the human condition.
