Art connects people, opens our minds and prompts conversation. That is the goal of Save the Cord Foundation’s Young Artists Program–to connect, open minds and start conversation.
Save the Cord Foundation (www.SaveTheCordFoundation.org) developed the Young Artist Program in an effort to communicate directly with young families and educate them about the life-saving medical benefits of saving a child’s umbilical cord blood at birth. Cord blood is being used today to treat 80+ different diseases including sickle cell anemia, cerebral palsy and leukemia. Yet, today over 95% of cord blood is discarded as medical waste! It is vital that expecting parents learn about the life-saving uses of cord blood and are given an opportunity to either donate their child’s cord blood or save it privately.
The theme for the 2012 Young Artists Program is "Create, Give, Share." Numerous children from around the world, aged 2 to 8 years old, have contributed their art to this year's program. We have featured all of their work here in this book paired with classic childhood stories and rhymes. Our goal has been to produce a project which can be both enjoyable and educational.
