Monica Schmid was born in Switzerland, where she studied fashion design and pattern making. After her Spanish culture and language studies at the University of Madrid, Spain she settled in California to design and engineer patterns for the garment industry. Years later she enrolled at California College of the Arts in Oakland and California State University East Bay to study metal art and jewelry making.
